Fleet Management

Real-time tracking and optimization for complex fleet operations.

Executive Summary

Engineering High-Availability Decision Tools

As the UX Strategy Lead, I spearheaded the design of a next-generation fleet management dashboard. My approach centered on converting massive telemetry data into actionable "at-a-glance" insights for dispatchers operating in high-pressure environments. The platform delivered an 18% reduction in fuel costs and a 3x increase in dispatcher response times globally.

Key Result

18% Fuel Savings

Achieved through optimized route planning and real-time telemetry alerts for efficient driver behavior.

01. Strategy & Research

Turning Noise into Intelligence

The strategy for Fleet Management was rooted in "Cognitive Offloading." Dispatchers were previously drowning in data points. I led a data-prioritization study to determine which metrics actually drove decisions. We moved from a "list-based" mental model to a "spatial-first" model, where location and status are unified on a high-performance map interface.

Telemetry Optimization

Defined a tiered alert system that filtered out 70% of non-critical telemetry noise, allowing dispatchers to focus solely on high-priority exceptions.

Component Scalability

Built a library of high-density UI components designed for multi-monitor setups and 24/7 operational environments.

Spatial Interaction

Architected a custom map engine interaction model that allowed for seamless transitions between global overview and granular vehicle tracking.

02. Design Process

Engineering the Map Interface

The 'God Mode' View

We designed a full-bleed map interface that acted as the operating system for the entire application. Rather than opening separate windows, the map dynamically exposed relevant vehicle telemetry and driver status panels as overlays, keeping the geographic context persistent.

High-Contrast Dark UI

Dispatchers operate 24/7 across multiple monitors. We opted for a deep charcoal dark mode with map tiles styled for high contrast. Alert states were strictly color-coded (Amber for delays, Red for maintenance critical) to ensure instant cognitive recognition without reading text.

The Challenge

Logistics dispatchers were managing global fleets using outdated legacy software that required constantly switching between multiple non-integrated tools. The lack of real-time visibility led to poor route optimization and delayed maintenance.

The Solution

We engineered a map-centric dark mode application that centralized all critical telemetry, scheduling, and driver communication. By utilizing visual alerts and a clean, high-contrast UI, dispatchers gained complete situational awareness.

03. Outcomes & Impact

Precision Logistics

By transforming a fragmented workflow into a unified visual experience, the logistics company dramatically improved fleet efficiency, saving fuel and predicting maintenance needs before they caused downtime.
